Abortion Is The Voluntary Termination Of A Human Pregnancy

There are 1.1 million U.S. abortions each year. Abortion is the voluntary termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy, resulting in the death of the fetus or embryo. There are two types of groups that are either for abortion or against it. One group is called the pro-choice group and they believe that a woman should have access to any health care that she needs and that she should have control over her own body. The second group is the pro-life group and they believe that the embryo or fetus is alive and thus abortion is equivalent to murder. Abortion should be illegal in every state in the United States because of the way it has an emotional effect on people, the ending of another person’s life before they are born, and the physical pain it causes to the people having an abortion. Federal law has protected a woman s right to choose an abortion since the U.S. Supreme Court s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. The plaintiff was an unmarried pregnant woman from Texas who wanted an abortion, but was denied one under Texas law. She filed a federal lawsuit under the name Jane Roe to have the Texas law declared unconstitutional. Roe argued that a law prohibiting her from obtaining an abortion violated her constitutional right to privacy. The U.S. Supreme Court, in 7-2 vote, agreed with Roe that Texas s law criminalizing abortion violated her right to privacy.
